Offroad Vietnam Motorbike Adventures - A reply for General Vietnam Motorbike Tour Inquires.

A Reply To Vietnam Motorbike Tour Inquires

Hello,

Thank you for contacting us.

Offroad Vietnam is based in Hanoi. We use only near new 125cc Honda bikes or the older but still reliable Honda XR250’s. They were made by Japanese Honda companies, not the Chinese copies. We don’t use other brands due to part availability and reliability. However, none of our bikes is really suitable for riding two up. If you ride two up the pillion passenger won’t be comfortable and not enough room for the rider’s legs. This is sadly honest advice. A standard touring motorbike for two people is from 650cc and this is very expensive in Vietnam due to 120% taxes. FYI, a new Kawasaki Versys 650cc sport adventure costs 14,000$US!!! That’s ways too much for the business.

Most of the details you need to know were posted on our websites. Just follow the links in this email to pages providing the information you are looking for. We know this reply can be exhaustive but we would like things clear and straightforward before you confirm a booking. In case you already knew any detail then just skip it.

You will see the best of Vietnam, not like the norm. In reality, we ride where very few people travel. In addition, our business focuses on safety, comfort, quality of services, and customers’ experience and satisfaction. We don’t offer cheap backpacker standards or lower quality of services in exchange for a discounted price. In short, we don’t just sell you an adventure but a journey of your lifetime.

Rider skill requirement

Could you let us know a bit more about your dates and riding experience, please? Riding experience is very important because Vietnamese traffic is very scary. Do you ride automatic or semi-automatic or manual clutch motorbikes? In case you don’t feel confident to ride as a novice rider, there’s an option to ride pillion on the back of your partner or our tour guide.

Vietnam motorbike tour options

How many days do you want to ride? We recommend a week and you could look this ride. It shows you the best of Northern Vietnam (roads, trails, people, culture and scenery, etc.). More feedback about this loop is at this link. Moreover, if you need more reference please log on this page.

Self-guided motorbike tours (just bike hire)

01. Honda Winner 150 touring scooter (year 20162018): 15$US/bike/day.
02. Honda XR150L 20162017 trail bike: 20$US/bike/day.
03. Honda CRF150L 2019 dual enduro: 25$US/bike/day.
04. Honda CRF250L off-road dual enduro (year 2013 2017): 40$US/bike/day.

It’s best to know some mechanic basics because manual clutch bikes are not popular in Vietnam. We could quickly show you things to handle when you are on your own. You pay for everything on your own while on the road.

Semi-guided Vietnam motorbike tours

On a semi-guided trip, in addition to bike rental costs above you have a Vietnamese local who is a guide, a mechanic, and a translator. He also takes care of the routes and helps with food and hotel arrangements. He’s a real bonus to the whole experience. His salary + his bike is 100$US/day and this cost will be shared between riders in your group. You pay him fuel, accommodation, and food during the trip. If you end outside of Hanoi, there will be additional costs for shipping the bikes back and guide’s travel back to base.

This option starts from 100$US/day + bike rental above + spending on the road for yourselves, our guide, and fuel. For example on Honda XR150L and 1 person, you pay 120$US/day plus spending on the road.

Fully guided Vietnam motorbike tours

This type of tour includes almost everything like bikes, a tour guide, food, accommodation, tickets, and permits, etc. In fact, all you pay is just drinks.

Most of our tours are private and only some are open to more riders. Updates are posted here. If there is no tour for your dates, it’s possible to start a new trip and we advertise to get more riders if possible.

For the cost, please follow this link. More people come you pay less. Bike upgrades are available.

Below we will cover more details of what you need to know when motorbiking in Vietnam. Many motorbike tour operators may not make it clear but we would like you to know these details before you decide. We have been providing professional motorbike adventures since late 2006.

Weather and climate

There are no best times to ride a motorbike in Vietnam as our country has an extremely long longitude spanning different climatic conditions at once. Vietnam also consists of four seasons, the winter isn’t too cold or the summer too hot. The autumn is sometimes heavy with rain but usually, it will only rain for 1 or 2 hours, then the wonderful blue sky will appear again. In the spring, mist covers the mountain tops, and even though there is cool weather it is one of the most spectacular times of the year with beautiful colours of trees and flower blossom.

For the most beautiful scenery of rice paddies in the mountain, the best time is from September to December. January to April is normally cold and foggy and May to August is hot and can be rainy.

Driving license

First, none of the foreign licenses is valid in Vietnam, including your country license. There are conflicting reports about this but the reality is unfortunately not good news.

However, the good news is IDP (international driving permit, 1968 Convention and not the 1949 Convention) is now valid in Vietnam from August 1st, 2016 with the 46/2016/ND-CP decree. You can purchase an insurance policy easily when you have a 1968 IDP. If you have 1968 Convention IDP, please also bring your home country driving license with motorbike endorsement.

Insurance on a motorbike trip

The question of having a Vietnamese license actually relates to insurance. There are three types of insurance but you only can get one for yourselves (personal medical insurance), please see more details on this page.

Safety motorbiking gear

It’s best to bring your riding gear for quality and sizes. But if you don’t want to carry, we also hire riding gear for 3$US/person/day and a typical set includes an HJC helmet, gloves, protective clothes, or pads as seen at this link.

Add-ons

A few more add-ons you may consider:
– Hotel room booking in Hanoi.
– Airport transfers in Hanoi.
– Vietnam visa on arrival.
If you need anything just let us know.

It’s possible to leave bags you don’t need behind at our office when you ride on your trip, we have spaces for you.

A deposit is needed to secure a booking and instructions will be sent after we agree about a final tour itinerary.

We hope that’s all clear about our services but let us know if you still have more questions.

Regards,

Anh Wu (Mr),
Sales Manager.
