Developed as an evolution of the Honda XR125L, which has proved enjoyable to ride, the XR150L offers a larger engine while retaining the straightforward character that makes the XR series popular. Although it is not as powerful as the Honda XR250 or the newer Honda CRF250L, its manageable weight, accessible performance, and practical design make it an attractive option for motorbike rental in Hanoi, Vietnam.

The Honda XR150L offers more than simple transportation; it provides an opportunity to experience the freedom of adventure riding. Feel the wind, follow winding countryside roads, and explore places that are difficult to reach by car. Unlike driving an automobile, motorcycling connects you directly with the road and the surrounding landscape. The XR150L adds another option to Honda’s well-known XR family of dual-sport and utility motorcycles. Replacing the XR125L in Honda’s lineup, it features an updated, larger-capacity engine with design improvements intended to support dependable everyday use. These include an offset crankshaft, roller rockers, a lighter piston, and a revised oil-cooling path. The result is a practical motorcycle for riders seeking a balance between manageable power, durability, and versatility.

The Honda XR150L is a relatively simple, low-maintenance motorcycle with road-going equipment that makes it suitable for both everyday travel and recreational riding, subject to local licensing and registration requirements. Compared with older models, it offers a more comfortable seat, an updated instrument panel, a redesigned headlight and refreshed bodywork. 150cc Engine

The 149cc four-stroke engine delivers smooth, predictable power for everyday riding and motorcycle touring. Its five-speed gearbox offers flexibility across different road conditions, while the electric starter makes starting convenient during early-morning departures. A kick-start mechanism is also available on applicable versions, providing an alternative if the battery or electrical starting system fails.

The XR150L’s manageable power is particularly useful for exploring Northern Vietnam’s countryside roads, mountain routes and rural villages. It is designed for practical riding rather than high-speed performance, making it a sensible option for riders who prefer a straightforward motorcycle for longer journeys.

Bigger Carburettor

At Offroad Vietnam, we have modified the carburettor on our Honda XR150L rental motorcycles to improve acceleration and provide smoother power delivery. Compared with the original setup, our modified configuration uses slightly more fuel, approximately 3-3.5 litres per 100 km, rather than the estimated 2.5-3 litres per 100 km under comparable riding conditions.

The improvement is particularly noticeable when climbing hills and riding through changing terrain. With the modified setup, the motorcycle can maintain momentum more comfortably on certain uphill sections, sometimes allowing the rider to use fourth or fifth gear where conditions and speed permit. Starting and cold-engine performance may also be improved, reducing the need to use the choke frequently.

These modifications reflect our practical experience maintaining motorcycles for motorbike adventures in Vietnam. Actual fuel consumption and performance depend on the route, load, riding style, engine condition, and maintenance.

Front Disk Brake

The Honda XR150L features a front disc brake and a rear drum brake. This combination provides practical braking performance for everyday riding and moderate off-road exploration. The front disc helps deliver controlled braking, while the rear drum offers a straightforward, familiar braking system.

When riding on Vietnam’s mountain roads, gravel tracks or uneven rural surfaces, always adjust your speed to the conditions and avoid sudden braking on loose or slippery ground.

Board

The Honda XR150L instrument panel provides essential riding information in a straightforward layout. It is designed for practical use and offers a more modern appearance than the traditional instrument panels found on some older motorcycles.

The dashboard helps riders monitor their journey while exploring Vietnam’s countryside and mountain regions, where keeping track of basic riding information is important during longer days on the road.

Grill

The practical luggage rack provides a convenient place to secure essential belongings for a motorbike trip. It is useful for carrying personal items, rainwear and other necessities when travelling through Northern Vietnam.

For longer journeys, pack carefully and secure your luggage properly. Avoid overloading the motorcycle, as excess weight can affect stability and handling, especially on rough roads and steep mountain sections.

Headlight

The Honda XR150L headlight features an Automatic Headlight On (AHO) system on applicable versions. Its CRF-inspired design gives the motorcycle a more modern appearance while providing forward illumination for everyday riding.

Visibility can still be limited by rain, fog and mist, particularly on mountain roads in Northern Vietnam. We recommend riding cautiously in poor weather and completing your daily journey before dark whenever possible.

Customization

Some Honda XR150L motorcycles supplied to our rental fleet were manufactured in China for international markets. Manufacturing origin alone does not determine a motorcycle’s quality, but condition, maintenance and component quality are important considerations when choosing a rental bike.

Over the years, Offroad Vietnam has made practical modifications to selected motorcycles in our fleet, including replacing certain bearings, tyres, cables and engine components where appropriate. These improvements are intended to enhance durability, reliability and riding performance under the demands of regular touring and off-road use.

Although our motorcycles may have accumulated years of use, regular servicing and appropriate replacement parts help keep them ready for adventure. We focus on maintaining dependable rental motorcycles for exploring Vietnam rather than simply offering the newest model.

Important about Honda XR150L

• The Honda XR150L is not ideal for carrying two people over long distances, particularly when luggage is added. Its power, seat comfort and handling are better suited to solo riding. We recommend riding solo for the most comfortable experience. If you must carry a passenger, take frequent breaks, keep daily distances manageable and avoid riding after dark or in heavy rain.
• Offroad Vietnam is based in Hanoi, Northern Vietnam. Our motorcycle rentals start and finish in Hanoi. We do not offer motorbike hire outside Hanoi or one-way rentals. Unfortunately, we cannot recommend other rental providers because we cannot personally verify the condition of their motorcycles or the quality of their services.
• To secure your preferred motorcycle, we require a deposit to confirm your Honda XR150L rental booking. The remaining balance is payable when you collect the bike. If you wait until arriving in Hanoi to book, availability cannot be guaranteed because our motorcycles are frequently reserved in advance.
• Rental days are not automatically calculated as consecutive 24-hour periods. Your first rental day begins when you collect your motorcycle unless a different arrangement has been agreed as part of a special deal. Please confirm your collection and return times when booking.
