Please note that we do not offer one-way rentals for 50cc motorbikes and scooters, as we only have one office in Hanoi. All of our small bikes are Taiwanese-made SYM models and are kept in near-new condition.

50cc MOTORBIKE & SCOOTER RENTALS AVAILABLE IN HANOI

Important

  • None of these bikes is really suitable for riding two-up due to their limited power, small seats, and limited luggage capacity. Riding solo is by far the best option. If you must ride with a passenger, take frequent breaks and avoid long riding days, especially after dark or in rainy conditions.
  • Due to quality, reliability, and customer feedback, from 2026, Offroad Vietnam will only provide Taiwanese 50cc scooters from SYM or KYMCO. No other brands will be available.
  • To reserve your bike(s), we require a deposit at the time of booking, with the remaining balance due when you collect the bike(s). If you wait until you arrive in Hanoi, we cannot guarantee availability, as our bikes are often fully booked.
  • We do not calculate rentals on a strict 24-hour basis. Day one starts when you collect your motorbike(s), unless a special arrangement has been agreed upon in advance.

Due to availability and pricing, we currently offer only Taiwanese-made SYM motorbikes and scooters. Genuine Honda 50cc scooters are either too old or too expensive, while Chinese copies have proven to be unreliable.

To be clear, 50cc scooter rentals make up only a very small part of our business and are offered mainly in response to customer requests. Nevertheless, we do our best to prepare and maintain all scooters in the best possible condition.

Why 50cc Motorbikes & Scooters Rentals?

Vietnamese law requires riders of motorbikes and scooters from 50cc to hold a valid driving licence. However, a licence from your home country is generally not valid in Vietnam unless it is accompanied by an International Driving Permit issued under the 1968 Vienna Convention. While converting a licence is often possible, many travellers prefer to avoid any complications and choose a 50cc motorbike or scooter (these scooters are registered as 49cc or 49.5cc, which means they are legally classified as under 50cc), which may better suit their insurance requirements.

In reality, 50cc motorbike and scooter rentals are not very popular in Hanoi or elsewhere in Vietnam. Demand is relatively low, and these smaller scooters are often less comfortable for foreign riders. As a result, availability can be limited. If you would like to rent a 50cc bike, we recommend contacting us in advance to make a reservation.

Why not Honda?

We would actually prefer to offer Japanese Honda 50cc scooters, but things are not always that simple.

As a rule, we do not rent out 50cc motorbikes or scooters that are more than ten years old. This means that older Honda Cubs are not an option for us.

In Vietnam, a new Honda Super Cub 50cc is extremely expensive, often costing around US$3,000. As a result, many of the newer “Cub” models you see on the road are actually Chinese-made copies rather than genuine Hondas.

For 50cc rentals, the most practical option available to us is SYM. It offers the best balance of quality, reliability, and affordability. While not as prestigious as Honda, SYM scooters have proven to be dependable and well-suited to this market.

Some customers have also requested a scooter similar to the famous Honda Giorno 50cc. To meet this demand, we used to offer the GN-50, a stylish scooter in near-new condition. With a few modifications and upgrades, it has worked out very well for our customers. However, it is still quite small and underpowered for most foreign riders.

50cc Scooters We No Longer Rent

Some rental shops in Hanoi still offer the models listed below. We have discontinued these scooters because the newer generation provides improved technology, better performance, and greater reliability.

We continuously update our fleet to maintain high standards, and to our knowledge, no other rental shop in Hanoi offers newer 50cc scooters than we do.
