ADD-ONS TO YOUR VIETNAM MOTORBIKE TOURS
Apart from providing professional motorcycle holidays and tours from Hanoi, Offroad Vietnam Motorbike Tours also offers a range of add-on services to support our customers. We are available whenever and wherever you need us.
Services such as hotel bookings, airport transfers, motorbike riding lessons, support trucks, and insurance arrangements can all be organized through us, with costs added to the tour price. This gives you peace of mind – simply book your flight to Hanoi’s Noi Bai International Airport, and we will take care of the rest for your trip in Vietnam.
Scams can be common when travelling, but as a local company, we know how to help you avoid them in Vietnam. Taxi drivers, cyclos, motorbike taxis, street vendors, restaurants, and even some hotels may occasionally use common tricks.
With our add-on services, we aim to reduce these risks and help ensure a smooth experience so you can arrive in Hanoi with peace of mind and enjoy your trip. Click here if you want to learn how to avoid travel scams when travelling in Vietnam.
Below are some of the most popular add-on services requested by our customers. If you have any special requirements, please let us know – we are always happy to help. We can also refer you to other providers if something is outside our scope.
Insurance
Purchasing personal medical travel insurance is generally easy and inexpensive in Vietnam. BaoViet, the national insurance company, has offered the BaoViet Medicare Travel Plan since 2008. We can assist you in arranging this policy if needed, just follow this link.
However, like most insurers, BaoViet will not issue coverage for motorbike riders without a valid Vietnamese driving licence.
Below is the latest information on licences and insurance.
Licensing issues
First, foreign driving licences are not valid in Vietnam, including your home country licence. While there are conflicting reports, the reality is that this is generally not accepted.
However, the good news is that an International Driving Permit (IDP) under the 1968 Convention is recognised in Vietnam following Decree 46/2016/ND-CP from August 1st, 2016. With a valid 1968 IDP, you can usually purchase insurance more easily. You should also carry your home-country licence with a motorcycle endorsement.
If you do not have an IDP or a Vietnamese driving licence, police checks are relatively rare unless there is an incident or violation. In practice, the main issue is insurance coverage, which is the more important consideration.
Personal medical insurance
This is another very important aspect of motorbike touring in Vietnam and one of the most important add-on considerations.
We do not require a driving licence to book a trip, but insurance is the key issue. Most insurance companies will not cover motorbike accidents unless you have a valid Vietnamese driving licence. Unfortunately, it is very difficult to obtain one on a tourist visa, as it typically requires a business visa (at least three months), a work permit, a sponsoring company, and supporting documents translated and notarized in Vietnamese. The process can take around 7-10 days after submission.
In practice, many travellers rely on standard personal travel insurance, which still covers them for most of the day since riding time is usually around five hours daily. Some insurers, such as CHI, World Nomads, and Allianz, may offer coverage for larger engine sizes without requiring a local licence.
Vietnam does not recognize foreign driving licences, except for an International Driving Permit (IDP). However, you do not need a licence to join our tours or rent our bikes. Please refer to this link for more details.
Hotel Rooms & Transfers In Hanoi
We work with several hotels close to our office, which are generally friendly and reliable. We can also arrange private airport transfers for you. For more details, please click here.
Vietnam Visa On Arrival
We recommend checking your country’s visa requirements and applying for a visa in advance in your country of residence if needed. It may also be possible to obtain a visa on arrival at Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City airports, but this is not available for land border entries.
At the airport, you may be directed to a local agent who issues a visa on arrival, typically costing around US$200. You will need four passport photos, which can also be taken at the airport for around US$2. The process usually takes about 45 minutes.
Since January 2008, we have offered a visa approval letter service (from US$15 per person). You simply send us your details, wait to receive the letter (usually within three working days), print it, and present it on arrival to obtain your visa stamp at Hanoi, Da Nang, or Ho Chi Minh City international airports (US$45 per person for a 30-day tourist visa stamp).
However, you can now also apply for an electronic visa online as mentioned below.
As of August 15th 2023, Vietnam has granted e-visas to citizens of all countries. Please apply for your visa online via the official website and select English.
If you have any special requirements, please contact us and we will provide the information you need.
