ADD-ONS TO YOUR VIETNAM MOTORBIKE TOURS
Apart from providing professional motorcycle holidays and motorbike tours from Hanoi, Offroad Vietnam Motorbike Tours also provide add-ons services to support our customers. In fact, we are with you whenever and wherever you need us. Reservation for a hotel room, airport transfers, motorbike riding lesson, support truck, and insurance policy could be easily arranged through us. The costs will be added to the tour price. In reality, this gives you freedom of mind. Just buy a flight ticket and land at Hanoi’s Noi Bai international airport. Then we will take care of the rest for your vacation in Vietnam.
As always, scams are popular when you travel. However, we are Vietnamese and know how to minimize travel scams in Vietnam. Taxi drivers, cyclo drivers, motorbike taxi drivers, street vendors, restaurants, and hotels are known for their tricks. We believe with these add-on services you won’t have any negative impression about Vietnam when you arrive in Hanoi. Click here in case you want to know how to avoid travel scams when travelling to Vietnam.
Below are just some most popular add-on services our customers usually request. However, if you have any special inquiries just let us know. We will be able to help you out with anything. Moreover, we even refer you to other places if our staff can’t help.
Insurance
Purchasing a normal personal medical insurance for tourists is easy and inexpensive in Vietnam. BaoViet – the National Insurance Company – is selling BaoViet Medicare Travel Plan from mid-2008. Therefore, we can help you to buy their plan with details here. Like most other companies, BaoViet won’t issue a policy to riders who don’t have a valid Vietnamese driving license.
Below is the latest information on license and insurance.
Licensing issues
First, none of the foreign licenses is valid in Vietnam, including your country’s license. There are conflicting reports about this but the reality is unfortunately not good news.
However, the good news is IDP (international driving permit under the 1968 Convention, not the 1949 Convention) is now valid in Vietnam from August 1st, 2016 with the 46/2016/ND-CP decree. You can purchase an insurance policy easily when you have an IDP. Please also bring your home country driving license with motorbike endorsement.
In case you have no IDP or Vietnamese driving license, the police rarely stop you to check your license unless you do something wrong. It’s more to do with the personal medical insurance that we cover below.
Personal medical insurance
This is another very important thing for doing motorbike tours in Vietnam. It’s probably one of the most important add-ons.
We don’t require any sort of license to book a trip but it’s more about insurance. Most insurance companies don’t provide a policy that covers a motorbike tour accident if you don’t have a Vietnamese driving license. Sadly, it’s impossible to get a Vietnamese license with a tourist visa. You need a business visa of at least three months, a work permit, a sponsor company, and a valid passport. All these documents should be translated into Vietnamese at a notary’s office. After submission, a license will be available after 7 or 10 days. It’s just too complicated and time-consuming. With just a normal personal medical insurance you will still be covered about 19 hours a day when not riding because we only ride about 5 hours a day on average. Some companies like CHI Insurance, World Nomads, and Allianz didn’t require a local driving license and covered larger displacements.
Even Vietnam doesn’t recognize any foreign license (except IDP) but take it easy you will be ok. We don’t require a license to join our tours or hire our bikes. More details are at this link.
Hotel Rooms & Transfers In Hanoi
We work with only two hotels that are very close to our office. In general, they are friendly and honest. In addition, we also arrange airport transfers with private cars. For more details, please click here.
Vietnam Visa On Arrival
We would recommend that you check on your country’s visa requirements and if required. Apply for a visa in your country of residence before your arrival. You may, however, be able to get it at Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh airport, but not possible if you arrive by land. The customs will show you a travel agent at the airport who then “sells” you a visa for around 200$US! You need 4 passport photos or you can have them for two USD. The whole process takes 45 minutes.
Since January 2008, we have been providing visa approval letter service (from 15$US/person for the letter). All you have to do are send us some information, wait to receive the letter (usually after three working days), print it, and show a copy of this letter to get the visa stamp on arrival at one of the three international airports in Hanoi, Danang or Ho Chi Minh City (45$US USD/person for the stamp of a 30-day tourist visa). However, you currently can apply for an electronic visa online as we mentioned below.
As of August 15th 2023, Vietnam granted e-visa to citizens of all countries. Please apply for your visa at this link and select English.
If you have any special requirements, please contact us and we will send you the information that you need.

We are planning to fly to Vietnam around the 14th of January and would like to do a motorbike tour. My husband has a motorbike licence and we would both like to travel on one motorbike. Could you give me an idea of availability, itinerary and costs, please.
Kind regards,
