About Minsk Motorbikes
The plant started on 6 November 1945. It is situated in the capital of Belarus – Minsk: Motovelo Corporation, 8 Partizanski Ave., Minsk, Belarus 220765; Tel: 375 17 221-6905; Fax: 375 17 221-6806
This plant manufactures on parallel assembly lines motorcycles and bicycles. 70% of bicycles are exported to Russia, while 90% of motorcycles are exported to countries outside of the former USSR – Iran, Vietnam, Turkey, Mexico, UK, France, USA, and Germany.
Since privatization, the MotoVelo Corporation has been in decline trailing near bankruptcy. On 25 November 2005, some 600 employees of MotoVelo rallied and blocked one of major Minsk streets in protest of low salaries ($100/month) and poor work conditions. On 16 December 2005 majority stock (90% of stock options) were transferred to the Belarussian state to save the plant. The Belarussian socialist economy means that the plant will soon have an influx of state money and improve.
Some believe that this whole situation was created by a Motovelo director deliberately since immediately after the collapse of Motovelo he was promoted to a high government position. Looks like the Lukashenka regime was after the hard currency flow generated by this 90% export of motorcycles abroad. However – this is good news for consumers – the plant will survive.

Dirt Bike Minsk 125cc Wildcat
The MINSK WILDCAT is built like a tank. Therefore, it has great performance and style. The 125cc two-stroke engine has superb pick-up. Hydraulic forks and coil-over hydraulic shocks in the rear. 18″ front and rear tires. Comfortable seat, steel tank, and plastic fenders. In general, it’s an excellent entry-level dirt bike because of easy handling. Great fun for OFF ROAD Russian style!
I’m surprised how you guys in Vietnam have no illusions regarding the real reason behind the downfall of the Minsk brand and are actually well aware of everything.
Currently, MMVZ (Motovelo) assembles its own (+French participation) designed models from 96% Chinese components – this is better than the old one, but still a piece of crap. No spare parts are available at all and prices are 3x the analog. Only those who value the old emotions once brought by original “Минск” and don’t really count money buy it out of curiosity.
We do hear about some new models which are Chinese Zhongshen products sold under the Minsk brand. However, there are many better choices now and Minsk is no longer a serious consideration anymore in Vietnam :)
Hello, can I rent one scooter 50 cc in Minsk and pay with Belarus Rubel?
Dear Per. We are based in Hanoi and don’t use Minsk (the last time was July 2007) due to the low reliability and poor performance. In addition, we are based in Hanoi, Vietnam, not Belarus so you can do some research and contact companies in Belarus to hire a bike.
I like to buy a Minsk 125cc 2-stroke dirt bike motorcycle. It was called the Minsk Wildcat 125cc 2-stroke motorcycle. Do you have any for sale? Thank you or for rent when I come to Hanoi city.
Dear David. This model was too outdated and not available for sale in Vietnam. You have better choices now, like the Honda XR125/150L, Honda XR150L, Honda XR250 and Honda CRF250L. What are your dates please?
Actually, I have two! I might consider getting rid of one of them. In the Washington DC metropolitan area.
John.
Hi John. Our advice: get rid both of them! It’s actually a very bad bike without any safety or reliability. In addition, it pollutes the environment badly. We used this bike for a few trips but never had any good thing to say about it. You can’t make a bad bike become a good bike.
Hi. How much you want for your 2 Minsk motorcycles? What year are they? Are they the wild cat model made in 1999 to 2000? Are they red or blue? Are they 2 stroke 125cc or 4 stroke 125cc? Let me no. Send phone number and price also send photos. Thank you. Rachel.
Hi Rachel. We used Minsk motorcycles for just a few trips back in 2007 and then stopped using them. They are, in fact, not real motorbikes (no battery, very old and unreliable ignition system, bad suspension and poor brakes). Don’t use them, forget what they are described as “characteristic”. It failed to meet any safety or current requirements of a touring bike. It’s more trouble than fun. Go for the newer Japanese Honda motorbikes. Do you buy or rent?
I have 2 Minsk motorcycles for sale cheap. I heard they develop bad transmission and bad ignition. I think Chineses bikes are a better option, lighter, faster, not break down prone. I paid 1,300 new each. Make me a reasonable offer. Thank you. Just want to get rid of cheap.
Hi John. That’s a crazy price for a piece of crap. We never consider Minsk as a motorbike. Chinese bikes are bad too. If you buy cheap, you buy twice or more. Save and get a real bike (we use only Japanese Honda). We are not a used bike dealer so sadly can’t help. Good luck.
