Why Choose a Support Vehicle or Backup Truck?
There are several reasons why our customers choose to have a support vehicle or backup truck accompany their Vietnam motorbike adventure:
- Riding in a large group (typically six riders or more);
- Carrying large bags, suitcases, photography gear, or other bulky equipment;
- Having spare motorcycles, spare parts, and immediate assistance in the event of a mechanical issue;
- Taking a comfortable break in the support vehicle when feeling tired or after a minor accident;
- Returning to the starting point or base at the end of the tour;
- Transporting an icebox with cold drinks, including water and refreshments, for the journey;
- Meeting specific personal requirements or special travel needs.
A support vehicle adds convenience, flexibility, and peace of mind, allowing riders to enjoy their journey through Vietnam with greater comfort and confidence.
Cost
The cost of a backup truck or support vehicle is US$170 per day, which includes:
- A 1-1.25-ton truck or a pickup vehicle, including fuel, parking fees, and road and bridge tolls;
- An experienced driver, along with his meals and accommodation;
- One or two spare motorcycles carried in the truck (the same model as those used on your tour). Spare motorcycles are not normally available when using a pickup vehicle due to its size;
- Additional spare parts and tools for motorcycle maintenance and emergency repairs.
The Driver
Our driver speaks basic English and works closely with the tour guide to provide additional support throughout your journey. If your motorcycle requires any repairs or maintenance, having the driver available makes handling the situation much easier and more efficient.
Friendly, reliable, and trustworthy, the driver will also take good care of your luggage and personal belongings, giving you peace of mind while you enjoy the ride.
When the tour follows narrow trails, single tracks, or off-road sections, the support vehicle may not be able to accompany the riders directly. In such cases, the driver will travel on nearby main roads and remain only a few minutes away, ready to provide assistance whenever needed.
Who Uses a Support Truck or Support Vehicle?
This option is most commonly chosen by private groups, with the cost shared among all riders. Over the years, we have arranged support vehicles for groups ranging from as few as three riders to as many as 17 riders.
Based on our experience, a support truck becomes particularly valuable for groups of six riders or more. It provides additional comfort, flexibility, and peace of mind by carrying luggage, spare motorcycles, spare parts, and other essential equipment, while also offering immediate assistance when needed.
For larger groups, we highly recommend adding a support truck or support vehicle to enhance the overall touring experience and ensure a smoother, more enjoyable journey.
Luggage Transportation by Support Truck or Pickup Vehicle
Please note that trucks are not permitted to enter Hanoi’s Old Quarter after 6:00 AM. For this reason, the driver will collect and load your larger bags onto the support truck very early in the morning on the day your motorbike tour begins.
To make the process smooth and efficient, please leave any luggage you wish to store in the truck at your hotel reception the evening before departure. There is no need to wake up early or meet the driver in person – we will take care of everything while you enjoy a good night’s sleep.
For security reasons, please keep your passport, travel documents, money, valuables, cameras, and other important personal items with you at all times rather than storing them in the truck.
Passengers and Seating Arrangements
The support truck has space for one passenger. If your group includes a passenger, he or she will ride on the back of our guide’s motorcycle for approximately the first 15 km of the tour. This arrangement allows everyone to depart together from our office and begin the adventure as a group.

If you choose a support pickup vehicle, it can come directly to your hotel to collect both you and your luggage at any time. Unlike trucks, pickup vehicles are not subject to Hanoi’s Old Quarter access restrictions, providing greater flexibility and convenience on the day of departure.
