RESTORED SIDECARS IN HANOI

Latest update: restored sidecars in Hanoi is currently not available due to the shortage of vehicle and also parts. Therefore, you can’t buy or rent side cars from our friend anymore.

We are delighted to introduce you to these unique Russian-made Ural motorbikes. Initially built to be used in extreme outdoor and off-road conditions. In fact, they have 2-wheel drive, reverse gear and a side-car (Sportsman). In reality, Ural motorbikes have proved themselves reliable over the most hostile terrain. It is not for nothing, that they are named after the rugged Ural Mountains, where 2-wheel drive bikes are the only suitable means of transport (apart from horses and helicopters!). Over the years serving in government offices, they became very old. Therefore, restored sidecars in Hanoi by Cuong requires a lot of work. Generally, it takes around one month to finish one sidecar!

Since the Russian/American privatization of the Uralmoto Zavod, a new generation of Urals has been launched. The engine and mechanics of the new Ural meet all the exacting standards of today’s machinery while its exterior design is still in the same “retro” style of the 50’s. Popular with outdoor sports lovers, farmers and military vehicle fans alike, Ural motorbikes are now imported by 12 countries in Europe, North America, Africa and Middle East.

What The Papers Said?

– ‘The quality of Ural’s bikes has come a long way in recent years and they are in danger of having endured almost unchanged for so long they’ll soon become modern classics’, ‘The never-ending quest for speed does not appeal to all riders. Urals are built to traditional engineering designs – there is now an honest alternative for the genuine motorcycle enthusiast who has time to enjoy the ride.’ (What bike?)

– ‘Off-road is where this machine comes into its own. It glides over ruts, stones & deep mud like a tank. It was actually hard to fight back a grin and not feel like Steve McQueen as I crested over hills effortlessly’ (Motorcycle News)

– ‘Although you can’t strip the entire bike by the roadside with a hammer and sickle, it is delightfully DIY friendly compared with a water-cooled V4’, ‘A twisty road on a Ural is at least as thrilling as a Ducati 996’, ‘Whilst sidecaring definitely builds both character and muscles, it’s not as difficult as some people claim’ (Used Bike Guide)

– ‘Considerably smaller than most of its 4×4 equivalents, the motorcycle and side-car has a very low profile, and its tight turning circle makes it ideal for use in both urban and close countryside environments’ (Combat & Survival)

– ‘The Motor might produce only 36HP but it’s got enough low-down power to pull a tank out of a ditch’, ‘The prices are indeed cheap, starting from £2,700 for a basic model. You can pay more for a scooter’ (The Times)

Restored Sidecars By Cuong

Mr Cuong had Russian sidecars for sale from US$3,500 to US$5,000. In general, they are Ural 650cc made in 1980s. He said he stopped selling or hiring to focus on providing guided tours on side-cars a few years ago. Therefore, with much regret we are not able to help with buying or hiring sidecars in Hanoi.

Hi, I’m looking to buy a ural solo or sidecar.

I have a 2013 retro back in Australia and miss It.

    Hope you can help!

Hello Justin. Unfortunately, we don’t deal with side-cars. They are very old and parts are not easy. Good luck with your research.

Hello I have recently moved to Hanoi and I’m looking for a good bike to get out of Hanoi and go exploring with my wife. Can you suggest a good bike as I am 6 ft tall. I was thinking the xr 250. Can you suggest where I should start looking to buy this bike as you are highly recommended.
    thanks
    Chris

Hello Chris. Dirt bikes are expensive and not popular in Hanoi. A new Honda XR125 costs about 3,000$US and Honda CRF250L is about 10,000$US with all taxes paid. For an used bike like XR250, expect to pay around 3,000 – 5,000$US/bike depending on conditions and papers. Unfortunately we don’t have any used XR250 for sale or know anyone who wants to sell at the moment. Maybe next year when we upgrade the current bike fleet. You can still rent bikes to ride on long trips and the cos of rental is 35$US/day for XR250.

Do you sell motorbikes and sidecars?

    • Anh Wu Reply

Hello Peter. Unfortunately, we don’t have sidecars or do anything with them. All sidecars were from one of our friends but he stopped hiring or selling them now. Most of sidecars in Vietnam don’t come with papers.
