RESTORED SCOOTERS IN SAIGON OF VIETNAM
We are very pleased to announce our cooperation with Saigon Scooter Centre, based in Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City). Here you’ll find the best-restored scooters in Saigon, Southern Vietnam, all managed by Patrick Joynt. Pat, originally from the U.K, has been a scooter enthusiast since early childhood.
For sure there are massive differences in price and quality for restored scooters around Vietnam. Basically, it comes down to who you’re dealing with, which parts they use, and the quality of the restoration which isn’t just a shiny paint job.
Restored Scooters In Saigon Quality
With regards to quality, check out the restoration process on their website at http://www.saigonscootercentre.com. It’s a long drawn-out process to restore a machine that’s been a workhorse in Vietnam for 40+ years into a show-piece export standard roadworthy scooter. Basically, we carry out a full strip down to bare metal and replace all non-original parts with Italian bodywork. The majority of our parts are imported from overseas (Italy/UK/Germany/India) and we also produce hundreds of Italian quality parts from our workshop which is the only western standard operation of its kind in the country. All machines undergo a thorough road test and we carry out a comprehensive inspection based on the UK MOT test before the scooters are finally packed up for export. The whole process from start to finish takes between 8 and 10 weeks, unlike local shops that restore in 4/5 days.
Restored Scooters In Saigon Reputation
We know of many more foreigners coming here and buying between 1 and 20/30 scooters and getting them home just to find they are not only unroadworthy but death traps. As such Vietnam has a bad reputation and with more and more scooters and classic bikes being exported the problem is only going to get worse. We’ve gone to great lengths to build a good reputation and currently export to over 15 countries. We also supply most of the top dealers in the UK/Europe with parts which we produce. In reality, we are the only 100% foreign-owned and fully licensed scooter business in Vietnam.
Part availability
We work from our own premises, employ over a dozen full-time staff, and we subcontract no work to any other local chop shops. At the end of the day, there are so many on the road here, through pure necessity, not because they are considered a collectable classic. Local parts are very poor quality but they were produced for a local budget, not for the export market. A prime example is 3 USD locally manufactured piston compared to 90 USD Italian one and that is 1 of a hundred major engine components.
For some more information and general background have a look at the “About Us” page on the website and. In addition, we have many reviews about our work and products from both national and international publications.
