CHALLENGING 6 DAYS NORTH VIETNAM ON BIKE
6 days / 6 nights – Challenging 6 Days North Vietnam On Bike.
Booking code of Challenging 6 Days North Vietnam On Bike: BN607
Night 1: Hanoi – Lao Cai By Train.
The train leaves around 9am but we need to be at the station about 2 hours before. In fact, there is limited space for motorbikes so late show up can result in no space.
Day 1: Lao Cai – Sapa. ~40 km, ~2 h.
The train arrives at Lao Cai station around 6:30 am. The road from Lao Cai to Sapa is narrow and steep, taking us from the elevation of 650 to 1,600 m above sea level. Sapa is now quite touristy. However, we propose a trek to Ta Van village where is dominated by Zay people. We pass Lao Chai village on the way and lunch could be in Lao Chai, Ta Van, or wherever we want. The children will go together with you along the way. In Sapa, the humidity is high and it gets colder after midnight.
Day 2: Sapa – Coc Ly – Bac Ha. ~120 km, ~4 h.
Ride down to Lao Cai and then to Pac Ngam to meet the boat that is waiting to take us to Coc Ly where you will meet H’mong, Dao and Phu La people. In fact, Coc Ly is wild, lost in the forest and could only be reached by horse, boat or bike. A boat is waiting to take us and our bikes on Chay River for over 1 hour (20 km). Meet local people and have lunch in Coc Ly before riding back to Bac Ha.
Day 3: Bac Ha – Luc Yen – Vu Linh. ~180 km, ~6 h.
We start the ride from Bac Ha to Luc Yen, follow a small track, then a boat is waiting for us to bring the bikes and us to Vu Linh, at our Dao friends’ village. We will cross all the lake (~3 hours). The welcome is exceptional and we hope you will not be too much tired.
Alternatively, if you like riding we could ride from Luc Yen to Vu Linh via Yen The on a small road that runs alongside Thac ba lake to Vu Linh. In fact, most of our customers picked up this option.
Day 4: Vu Linh – Na Khan. ~210 km, ~10 h.
We ride from Vu Linh to Na Khan through Thai Nguyen (over 200 km). In general, the road is sealed all the way until Bac Kan. However, the last part from Bac Kan to Na Khan is wild and little bumpy. Na Khan a Tay village, lost in the middle of the primitive forest. Mr. Lo, chief of the village will welcome us in his house.
Day 5: Na Khan – Ba Be. ~60 km, ~2 h.
A short drive from Na Khan to Ba Be on a bumpy road. Then have lunch at our captain’s house (Mr. Sao). Easy boating on the lake and river. Go to market (if it is the day you arrive). Stop at a waterfall, beautiful swim etc. Ong pirate, the chief of Dau Dang waterfall where we enjoy dinner. Down the waterfall, we could visit the village and a small school (only a few pupils during the summer). We propose to stay in the stilt house of forest guards.
Day 6: Ba Be – Hanoi. ~240 km, ~8 h. End of Challenging 6 Days North Vietnam On Bike.
Today is quite a long ride but easy (so early departure is better) from Ba Be to Hanoi 240 km.
We try to arrive in Hanoi before 5pm to avoid rush hours. Otherwise, you should be good with city traffic from the experience you got over the last days.
