This Best 5 days Roof Roads motorbiking is one of the best rides on two wheels in Northern Vietnam. Due to long riding hours and bumpy roads, riders need to have intermediate or advanced skills. In return, you will have stunning views, friendly and authentic hill tribes, and the super delicious food of Vietnam.

In case you don’t have five days and still want to ride this motorcycle route then we can make it 4 days. However, it also means we have to ride a bit longer, merging day 2 and day 3 as one day.

Day 1: Hanoi – Nghia Lo. ~180 km, ~7 h.

Today is the first day of this best 5 days Roof Roads motorbiking. Before starting to ride, we will have a short briefing to let you know about the rules. In addition, the guide will show you how to understand him by his body language. We start around 9.30am after the rush hour.

Easy drive on sealed road along the river road via Son Tay to Trung Ha bridge. Then head up the low hills of Hoang Lien range to Thu Cuc. Ride through rural areas with beautiful rice field along the road until Khe pass, the first one of the main mountain range where Fansipan is the top or peak of Indochina.

Nice and quiet cruise via Ba Khe to Nghia Lo. In fact, half of today’s ride is on mountain roads and the scenery is quite good.

Night in a hotel.

Day 2: Nghia Lo – Than Uyen. ~140 km, ~6 h.

Wild and bumpy road. We go through the Mu Cang Chai massif, almost as high as the Fansipan: From the top, we have one of the most beautiful views of North Vietnam. Once in Than Uyen, we can go around visiting villages surrounding.

Night in Hotel.

Day 3: Than Uyen – Sapa. ~140 km, ~5 h.

Walk/ stroll in the morning. The area of Than Uyen is mainly populated by Flower H’mong and Dzao people. Then direction Sapa. Easy track for 100 km and asphalted mountainous road for the last 40 km. We can stay in Sapa or if we feel going further and the weather is nice, we can keep riding until Muong Hum where we stay with Giay people. 40 km of dirt road. Beautiful riding.

Day 4: Sapa – Vu Linh. ~200 km, ~7 h.

We start riding down to Lao Cai and then we go to Thac Ba lake. Until Luc Yen, the road is easy and asphalted. Next, a secondary road along the Thac Ba lake, Dzao and Tay territory until the traditional village of Vu Linh where we stay with our friends.

Day 5: Vu Linh – Hanoi. ~180 km, ~6 h. End of Best 5 Days Roof Roads Motorbiking.

Come back to Hanoi. Road and easy track.

We try to arrive in Hanoi before 5pm to avoid rush hours. Otherwise, you should be good with city traffic from the experience you got over the last days.
