Hi Anh!

We really enjoyed our trip. The main reason would be Thon, our guide. Not once were we worried or stressed about anything. We trusted Thon and knew he could handle any situation. From the beginning when we had to ride out of Hanoi, I just stayed behind him and followed. He did a good job of adjusting his riding and his speed to what he knew I could handle. One rainy day he disappeared and came back with the rain suits. On that same rainy day, my bike broke down twice, and thought it seemed like we were in the middle of nowhere, he disappeared again for a short time and came back with the right part to fix the bike.

Thon also quickly remembered what we liked to eat and ordered food according to our taste. Another time he found out the battery on my camera had died and I didn’t have the right charger, and he found one for me. He also found a charger for Jeff’s camera – in the middle of nowhere.

Thon is an amazing “people person”. He is at home anywhere and knows how to deal with anyone. Even though obviously we didn’t speak a word of the language you could see from the body language that people react to him in a positive way. He can get what he wants but is very smooth about it. This is a terrific quality for a guide – Thon was always flexible and able to arrange whatever it was we needed or wanted.

Not to mention he has a fun personality and is very easy to be around.

I just wanted to let you know our experience with Thon and hopefully, you can hang onto him for a while because you can trust him with any of your clients!

As far as the trip itself, we don’t know how it could have been better. We got a true feel for the people and the country. Through four homestays sounded like a lot, each one was very different and we had a different experience at each one. It was an honor to be able to stay in people’s homes and have them serve us.

The pace of the trip was perfect. We liked the long hours of riding each day. It was never boring and always something new to see. It was great to cover so much distance in such a short time. The side trips to caves, boat rides, waterfall, etc. were just right.

So I just wanted to say thank you for all the emails last spring and your help with planning and getting the visa. I will post some pictures on a website as soon as I can and send you the link.
