ALL-INCLUSIVE MOTORBIKE TOURS OF VIETNAM

All-inclusive motorbike tours offer one of the easiest ways to experience a country from the inside out. In most cases, you simply ride while we take care of everything else.

Asia is one of the most exciting regions in the world for motorcycle touring, and Vietnam stands out as a remarkable destination, offering breathtaking landscapes, winding mountain roads, and warm, welcoming people.

From Hanoi, our company organizes a wide range of on-road and off-road adventures across Vietnam, using motorcycles, motorbikes, scooters, and 4×4 vehicles – essentially any suitable transport for exploring beyond the tourist trail. All tours begin in Hanoi and can end anywhere in the country, depending on your itinerary.

You pay once and enjoy a seamless journey, without the need to worry about bike repairs, restaurant arrangements, traffic navigation, or accommodation planning.

Our motorbike tours are not extreme off-road expeditions. Despite the name “Offroad Vietnam,” we operate a mix of paved and unpaved routes, depending on the itinerary and riding conditions.

Most of our tours are private and fully customized. Occasionally, we may combine small groups of riders, but we do not run fixed, pre-scheduled departures.

How We Ride on All-Inclusive Motorbike Tours

Our team has designed more than 150 different itineraries, and our route map are a helpful guide when choosing where to ride. Each tour is created by experienced riders for international guests who want to discover a more authentic Vietnam, far from mass tourism.

With us, you venture into remote and lesser-known regions – places that remain unspoiled, rarely visited, and often absent from guidebooks. Along the way, you will experience high mountain passes, winding roads, hairpin turns, and genuine encounters with local communities who warmly welcome visitors as guests.

Motorbiking is one of the best ways to experience true freedom: you can stop whenever and wherever you wish. Feeling the road beneath you, meeting local children, shaking hands with villagers, and sharing a cup of green tea in roadside cafés or tea shops all contribute to an authentic “Real Vietnam” experience.

Our routes include a wide variety of iconic and scenic locations: winding mountain roads, lush rice terraces, historic Highway 6 and Highway 4, the Dien Bien Phu battlefield, the legendary Ho Chi Minh Trail, Khe Sanh combat base, coastal Highway 1, the misty landscapes of Sapa, the dramatic mountains of Ha Giang, the spectacular Ban Gioc Waterfalls, and the breathtaking scenery of Ha Long Bay – along with many more hidden gems waiting to be discovered. Riding through quiet countryside and mountain roads offers a completely different experience from the busy streets of major cities.

The speed limit is generally 60 km/h, and we often ride even slower to ensure safety and to fully enjoy the scenery. Outside the cities, locals often wave and greet you as you pass. When you stop, they may gather around to welcome you, shake hands, and curiously observe the motorcycles – often surprised and amused to see foreign riders, especially those with “hairy arms,” as bigger motorcycles are still a rare sight in many remote areas.

The Team Behind Our Motorbike Adventures

Every trip with our guides is a new discovery – an opportunity to make new friends and build lasting relationships, which ultimately adds great value to the entire journey. Our tour leaders are trained in basic motorcycle mechanics, speak Vietnamese and English, and some also communicate in local dialects. With them, you will experience the very best of Vietnam while gaining genuine local connections. They are the true assets of our company and have been leading motorbike adventures for many years.

Our most popular experiences are all-inclusive motorbike tours, with over 1,500 tours completed and more than 5,000 customers served – and counting. Offroad Vietnam is the first and original motorbike tour operator in Northern Vietnam, offering journeys exclusively on Japanese Honda road and enduro motorcycles.

We are a dedicated professional team and own all of our touring bikes, which we maintain ourselves. We do not use rental motorcycles from other companies. This is a key difference between us and many operators who rely on third-party bikes and are not fully specialized in motorbike touring.

We use only two types of motorcycles: off-road enduro bikes and sport-touring motorcycles.

Our Costs

To ensure more personal attention, we operate in small groups. We do not offer easy rider or motorcycle taxi services; instead, you either ride your own bike or travel two-up with your partner or friend.

If price is your main concern, we may not be the cheapest option. However, if you are looking for the best balance between price and value, we are confident we offer one of the strongest experiences available (please refer to our reviews and feedback pages).

As a thank-you to returning customers, normally no deposit is required for future bookings, and a special discount will be offered. A deposit is only required for first-time clients. If you would like reassurance about our reliability, you are welcome to contact our references – real travelers who can share their direct experiences.

We primarily provide motorcycle adventures (accounting for over 80% of all bookings), so the following notes are intended for all-inclusive motorbike tour clients. Below are some of the most frequently asked questions. We also recommend visiting our FAQ page for additional information. If you still have any questions, please feel free to contact us.

Roadside Breakdown Support Policy

If the motorcycle breaks down, your guide will contact us so we can assess the situation. We will first determine whether the issue can be resolved on site using available tools and spare parts, or whether replacement parts need to be arranged and sent.

If the problem is confirmed to be a mechanical failure that cannot be repaired immediately, we will organize a replacement bike, typically delivered on the following day. In such cases, all related costs will be covered by us.

However, if the damage is caused by an accident or rider error, any repair or replacement costs will be the responsibility of the rider.

BEFORE PAYING A DEPOSIT

Our only office is located in Hanoi, where all tours begin. However, you may choose to end your ride anywhere in Vietnam.

We recommend arranging your flight to Hanoi’s Noi Bai International Airport at least one day before your tour starts. For travellers who prefer to avoid Hanoi’s busy traffic, we can transport the motorcycles by truck to the outskirts of the city, allowing the ride to begin outside Hanoi. This service incurs an additional cost, and we kindly ask you to contact us by email for further details.

We offer either fully guided motorcycle tours, semi-guided adventures or bike rentals only. For self-guided rental customers, we are unable to fully assist with timing, routing, or itinerary planning, as our routes include highways, back roads, and local shortcuts that are not always available on maps.

The experience of a guided tour is very different from a self-guided trip. Our guides serve as a 4-in-1 support system: guide, mechanic, translator, and route navigator. Guided tours offer greater flexibility and a deeper understanding of Vietnam, and they are priced accordingly compared to self-guided rentals.

Weather

As 90% of our tours take place in Northern Vietnam, understanding the seasonal weather patterns can help you choose the best time for your ride.

September to January is generally considered the best period for motorbike touring, with cooler temperatures, lower humidity, and relatively dry conditions.

February to April is usually cooler and can be quite wet, with mist, drizzle, and occasional rain, particularly in the mountainous regions.

May to August is the hottest time of the year. Summer temperatures can be high, especially in the lowlands, and the region experiences its monsoon season. The heaviest rainfall typically occurs during June, July, and August, when short but intense afternoon showers are common.

Regardless of the season, Northern Vietnam offers spectacular scenery and rewarding riding experiences, with each time of year bringing its own unique landscapes and cultural highlights.

All-Inclusive Motorbike Tours – Deposit & Payment

To secure your booking, a deposit is required. Please note that some banks may deduct intermediary or transfer fees, as international transfers are often processed through intermediary banks. If this results in a slight shortfall in the deposit amount, there is no need to worry – we can easily settle the difference when we meet in Hanoi.

You may transfer the deposit in your local currency, but we recommend checking the exchange rate and any applicable fees with your bank before making the transfer.

For the remaining balance, we prefer cash payments, as cash remains the most widely accepted form of payment in Vietnam. We accept most of currencies.

If you prefer not to travel with cash, you are welcome to pay the full tour amount online before arriving in Vietnam. Please refer to our payment instructions for details here.

Other Information

Most travelers require a visa to enter Vietnam. We can assist with obtaining a visa approval letter for those who are eligible. The approval letter is typically issued within 2-3 working days and requires a service fee.

Please note that visa regulations and fees may change over time. We recommend checking the latest requirements with the relevant Vietnamese authorities or contacting us for up-to-date information before making travel arrangements.

What to Bring

Here is a suggested packing list for your motorbike adventure. You are, of course, welcome to bring any additional personal items you may need during your trip.

A well-equipped first-aid kit is highly recommended and should be carried with you while riding and throughout your travels. Access to high-quality medical supplies can be limited in some remote areas of Vietnam, making a personal first-aid kit an essential item for the journey.

MEETING, BRIEFING & PAPERWORK BEFORE THE TOUR

Please arrive at our Hanoi office around 9:00 AM on the day of departure if possible, provided that all paperwork, riding gear arrangements, and payments have been completed in advance.

If you have an outstanding balance to settle or need to complete and sign the Disclaimer Form, please arrive at 8:30 AM instead. The pre-departure procedures typically take between 30 minutes and one hour before the adventure officially begins.

To save time on the day of departure, you may download and complete the Disclaimer Form in advance. We recommend printing and filling out the form before arriving in Vietnam and submitting it to our staff either before or on the day your tour starts.

The Disclaimer Form consists of two pages:

A PDF version is also available for download if it displays correctly on your device.

Payment Information

Cash remains the preferred method of payment in Vietnam. We accept payment in Vietnamese Dong (VND), US Dollars (USD), and several major foreign currencies, subject to the current exchange rate.

If you choose to pay by credit card, please note that bank processing fees typically range between 4% and 5%. An additional surcharge may apply if there is a significant difference between official banking exchange rates and prevailing market rates.

Finally, we strongly recommend reviewing our Booking Conditions before your arrival to ensure that all arrangements, terms, and expectations are clear before we meet in Hanoi.

ROAD RULES & RIDING GUIDELINES

Motorcyclists in Vietnam are becoming increasingly aware of traffic regulations, although road users do not always follow the rules as strictly as in many Western countries. Understanding local traffic habits is essential for riding safely and confidently.

If you want to enjoy a safe and memorable motorbike tour in Vietnam, we strongly recommend familiarizing yourself with the practical riding guidelines and road conditions before setting off.

Many of our guests on all-inclusive motorbike tours tell us that riding with an experienced guide allows them to relax, adapt more quickly to local traffic conditions, and fully enjoy the journey. With proper preparation and an understanding of how traffic flows in Vietnam, your tour can be both safe and highly rewarding.

WHILE ON THE ROAD

Vietnam is still a developing country, and travel experiences here may differ from what many visitors are accustomed to in Western countries. Infrastructure, accommodation, transportation, and services can vary significantly, particularly in remote regions where many of our motorbike tours take place.

During your journey, you may occasionally encounter firm mattresses, simple guesthouses, basic restaurants, or facilities that are more modest than those found in major cities or developed countries. These are all part of the authentic travel experience in rural Vietnam.

We encourage travelers to approach the adventure with an open mind and a flexible attitude. The rewards of exploring Vietnam’s stunning landscapes, diverse cultures, and welcoming communities often far outweigh the occasional lack of modern comforts.

If this is your first visit to Vietnam, embracing these differences will help you enjoy a richer and more meaningful travel experience.

Food

Restaurants along the route may often appear small and simple, but they usually serve excellent, authentic Vietnamese cuisine. Many of these local eateries offer traditional dishes that are not commonly found in larger restaurants or hotels.

On our motorbike tours, we actively support local businesses by dining in family-run restaurants and roadside eateries. This provides a more genuine taste of Vietnam and allows you to experience everyday local food culture in a way that is both authentic and rewarding.

Drinks

Please bring some extra cash for drinks during the tour. A 1.5L bottle of water or a can of beer typically costs between 15,000 and 25,000 VND (approximately 0.5-1 USD).

Drinks in homestays are often slightly more expensive than in restaurants. However, your payment goes directly to local families and communities, helping to support their income in remote areas.

We appreciate your understanding and support of local livelihoods throughout the journey.

Connection

GPS generally works well in Vietnam, but we recommend checking with your device provider to ensure you have the correct maps, software, and updates installed before your trip.

Internet access is widely available across the country. Broadband connections can be found in most towns, and public internet cafés are very common in many areas. The cost of internet usage is relatively low, with approximately 1 USD typically covering 4-5 hours of access. Alternatively, a local Vietnamese 3G/4G/5G SIM card is a convenient and affordable option for mobile connectivity. Most hotels and guesthouses also offer free Wi-Fi.

Electricity is available nationwide, although occasional shortages may occur, particularly during the summer months. Power cuts are more common between May and August, although they usually do not affect nighttime hours.

OPTIONAL ADD-ONS

You are free to stay anywhere in Hanoi, although we recommend the Old Quarter. While it can be busy and lively, it offers an authentic Hanoi experience and is conveniently located close to our office (~3km away).

We can assist with hotel bookings as well as airport transfers in Hanoi to make your arrival and departure easier.

Our office is located 3km from the Old Quarter, just cross the Chuong Duong Bridge. This provides a convenient starting point for riding out of the city along the Red River dyke roads, which generally offer lighter traffic compared to other routes.

Please note that we do not start tours directly from your hotel, as transporting motorcycles and riding gear is not practical due to their size and weight.

These optional add-ons are designed to make your all-inclusive motorbike tour in Vietnam more convenient and stress-free.

Hotel Rooms

All quoted prices are based on double, twin, or triple shared rooms.

A single supplement applies if you prefer a private room, typically around 20-30 USD per room per night. The exact amount may vary depending on the specific tour and accommodation used, and we will confirm the final cost via email or when we meet in Hanoi.

Riding Gear

We recommend bringing your own riding gear, as fit, comfort, and quality are important for safety and long-distance travel.

If you do not have your own equipment or prefer not to carry it, you can rent gear from us.

A standard riding set typically includes a helmet, gloves (either fingerless or full-finger), and protective gear such as knee and elbow pads, or a protective jacket and pants set. For motocross boots, we unfortunately do not provide them due to limited availability of sizes in Vietnam and the high cost of sourcing suitable equipment locally.

Luggage

We used to provide saddlebags on the motorcycles, but found that they could affect balance and handling at the rear of the bike. In addition, riding through busy towns with heavy traffic made this setup less practical and less safe.

We recommend packing your belongings in a medium-sized soft bag, which can be securely tied to the back of the motorcycle.

If you need guidance, we can show you examples of how the luggage racks are set up upon arrival.

On request, we can also provide a support truck at a cost of 170 USD per day, which includes the vehicle, driver, fuel, and a spare motorcycle.

Licensing Issues

First, it is important to note that foreign driving licenses are not automatically valid for riding in Vietnam, including national licenses from your home country. While there are sometimes conflicting reports, the practical situation is more complex on the ground.

The positive development is that the International Driving Permit (IDP) under the 1968 Vienna Convention is now recognized in Vietnam under Decree 46/2016/ND-CP (effective from August 1st, 2016). If you hold a 1968 IDP, you should also carry your original national driving license with a valid motorcycle endorsement.

Having a 1968 IDP also makes it easier to obtain appropriate insurance coverage.

If you do not have an IDP or a Vietnamese driving license, police checks are relatively uncommon and typically occur only when traffic violations are involved. However, we strongly emphasize that personal travel and medical insurance remain essential, and are addressed in the following section.

Insurance

Insurance is an important part of planning your guided motorbike tour in Vietnam.

Most insurance companies do not cover motorbike-related accidents if the rider does not hold a valid Vietnamese driving license. In practice, obtaining a Vietnamese license is a complex and time-consuming process, usually requiring a business visa of at least three months, a work permit, a sponsoring company, and a valid passport. These documents must also be translated and notarized in Vietnam, and the process can take 7-10 days or even more.

For most travelers, this is not a practical option. However, standard personal travel or medical insurance still provides coverage for the majority of the day when you are not riding, as our average riding time is approximately 5 hours per day.

Some international insurance providers, such as CHI Insurance, World Nomads, and Allianz, may offer coverage that does not strictly require a local driving license, though terms and conditions vary and should be checked in advance.

It is important to note that while Vietnam generally does not recognize foreign driving licenses (except for the 1968 Convention IDP), most riders complete their journeys safely with proper guidance and responsible riding.

For any optional add-ons, you will only need to make payment directly to Offroad Vietnam. There is no need to pay our partner companies separately, as we manage all arrangements through a single payment system for your convenience.
